Silence is not safety. Since releasing our joint Silence is not safety.

Since releasing our joint NABJ x BABJ coalition statement on November 17th, additional current and former WJZ staffers have come forward with documentation and accounts underscoring the concerns raised.

This week, WJZ-TV and CBS News leadership will meet with the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) and the Baltimore Association of Black Journalists (BABJ) to address issues surrounding newsroom culture, communication, turnover, safety, accountability, and trust.

Baltimore deserves a newsroom that serves its communities with transparency, clarity, and integrity.

Journalists deserve a workplace free of retaliation, instability, and inconsistent leadership.

We look forward to a productive, honest dialogue — rooted in accountability, data, and a shared commitment to improving local news in Baltimore.

A culture of fear, suppression, and inconsistent accountability.

Broken promises.

Black journalists pushed out of a station that once symbolized community trust.

With support from NABJ, we are calling for:
• An independent third-party review of newsroom culture
• A leadership audit
• Anonymous staff feedback
• Restorative measures for harmed employees
• Immediate dialogue with WJZ leadership
This moment is about truth, protection, and rebuilding trust.
