This Charm City event is part of the 3rd annual National Association of Black Journalists Black Male Media Project.

The Baltimore NABJ chapter’s panel discussion will focus on the role and responsibility of news organizations in accurately portraying Black men.

Far too often websites, newscasts and above the fold newspaper stories lead with mugshots of Black men. Sometimes mugshots are even used to identify victims of crimes. What goes into the newsroom decisions that lead to this kind of coverage? What’s the impact of these images on the community as a whole?

Our panel will dissect this issue and come up with a solution to possibly remedy this problem in Baltimore.

MODERATOR: Stan Stovall, WBAL-TV 11 News Anchor
